Rope Untangle scatters a set of dots and ropes across the board and asks you to pull them apart until no two ropes cross. Drag any dot with the pointer and the ropes follow it. The layout is generated so that a crossing-free arrangement exists, and the game ends the moment the count reaches zero.
Controls
- Drag — Press on a dot within about thirty pixels and move
- Pause — P
Tips & Tricks
- 1The puzzle always has a solution, and finding it is not guesswork: the dots were laid out on a planar graph first — outer ring, then each new dot at the centre of a triangular face — and only then scrambled. Spreading dots back toward the outside is the move that recovers it.
- 2A dot is picked up if the pointer lands within thirty pixels of it, which on a phone is roughly a fingertip. Starting slightly inside the dot rather than on its edge makes the grab reliable.
- 3The count that matters is crossings, and the win is exactly zero — not a threshold. Two ropes that share a dot do not count as crossing, only two that truly intersect.
- 4The counter on the HUD increments on every pointer movement while dragging, so it measures how slowly you moved rather than how well you solved. Ignore it and watch the ropes.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does the puzzle count as solved?
When no two ropes cross at all. The check runs after every drop, and the count is a plain intersection test between every pair of ropes that do not share a dot, so there is no tolerance and no near-miss.
Is the layout always solvable?
Yes. The dots are generated as a planar graph — three on an outer triangle, then each additional dot placed at the centre of a triangular face and joined to its three corners — and the crossing-free version of that graph is the target. The dots are then moved to random positions to make the puzzle.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes, and this is one of the few games here that needs it: dragging is the entire input, read from pointer move events, and the thirty-pixel grab radius is comfortable on a touch screen.
