Letter Trail lays out a 5x5 grid of letters. Tap one tile, then tap a neighbour — up, down, sideways or diagonal — and the path grows by one tile. When the letters spell something, submit the path and it pays one point per letter. Five words are planted on every board and finding all five ends the round, but the game also accepts any word from its three-to-five letter dictionary, so a word that was never planted still scores.
Controls
- Trace — Tap a tile, then tap a neighbour (diagonals count) to extend the path
- Untrace — Tap the last tile of the path again to remove it
- Submit — The Submit word button under the board, or Enter on a keyboard
Tips & Tricks
- 1Points are one per letter and nothing else: a five-letter word pays five, a three-letter word three. There is no rarity bonus anywhere in the code, so the long words on the board are where the score is, not the many short ones.
- 2Diagonals count as neighbours, so the centre tile of a 5x5 has eight of them. A path may turn as often as you like as long as every step lands on a tile it has not already used.
- 3The five planted words are the round objective but not the limit — every word the dictionary knows scores, which means the planted five are a floor on your score rather than a ceiling.
- 4Ninety seconds, and a tile that is not adjacent to the end of your path discards the path and starts a new one from that tile. A mis-tap costs the whole word you were building.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is a word scored?
One point per letter. A five-letter word pays five and a three-letter word three, with no bonus for rarity, length beyond the per-letter count, or speed. The five long words planted on each board are therefore worth more than the short ones that surround them.
Do I have to find the five planted words?
No. Finding all five ends the round, but any word in the built-in three-to-five letter dictionary scores, so a word the game never planted still counts. The planted five are the objective, not the only thing that pays.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Tracing is a tap-per-tile gesture, and locking the word in is the Submit word button that sits under the board on a phone. The button stays disabled until the path has at least one tile, so an empty tap cannot waste the word you were building. Desktop players can keep using Enter.
