Hashiwokakero — Hashi Bridges — gives you a grid of numbered islands and asks you to connect them with bridges. Every island must end up with exactly the number of bridges printed on it, in one connected network, with at most two bridges between any pair and no bridge crossing another.
Controls
- Bridge — Tap between two adjacent islands to add a bridge, tap again for a second
- Remove — Tap a bridge that already exists to take it back
- Pause — P
Tips & Tricks
- 1Two islands can be joined by one or two bridges, and never three, so the printed number is a count of bridge ends rather than of neighbours. An island marked 1 touches exactly one bridge, and an island marked 8 touches two to each of its four neighbours.
- 2An island with 1 or with (its number) equal to twice its neighbour count is forced, and a forced island propagates: fill it, and the count left on every island around it changes. Most boards fall to that alone.
- 3The connectivity rule is the one people forget. A layout can satisfy every number and still be wrong because it forms two separate networks, and the game will not accept it — the check requires one component, not just correct counts.
- 4Three rounds at 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5 islands inside a single 120-second clock, so the last board is both the largest and the one with the least time. Board one is worth solving quickly rather than perfectly.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is a board solved?
When every island has exactly its printed number of bridges, every bridge is one or two wide, no two bridges cross, and all the islands form a single connected network. All four conditions are checked together.
Are the puzzles guaranteed solvable?
Yes. The generator works from a spanning structure and the component runs a solvability self-test across seeded boards, so every layout has at least one valid answer rather than being checked by hand.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. A tap between two islands adds a bridge and a second tap doubles it, so the whole puzzle is played with one finger.
